In other writing news, I’m writing my first piece for Empire magazine, the Australian version of the huge film mag. I’ve got a smaller one first, then a big feature for January 2002. First one up is about Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back – Kevin Smith’s new movie. Yes, I’m a fan. Why, aren’t you?!

I’m making excellent progress on SNAPSHOT. It should be out to publishers by early next month.
I think I will rejig the front page at least slightly. The blog is a great thing and will be even greater once my audience increases, but initially, I definitely need some kind of title/explanation on the index page. But then again, unless the blog is on the front page I’m not entirely sure whether people would tune into it

Did over 40 pages of editing on SNAPSHOT today. Best day yet.
Look in the SNAPSHOT section soon for some details on what is sure to be the novel of 2002! (Yes, get ready for the marketing hype – it has to happen
)

All go ahead with the random slogan now… see if you can recognise the references (well, the ones I didn’t make up anyway
)
So the site is looking pretty good now. The domain should be working everywhere, visually it looks nice (if a bit monochrome I know,) and it’s just waiting to be loaded with content. So the easy part is done now?
Get ready for some fun here … how many authors do you know that actually run their whole site by themselves?

An update to the last item – it looks like the random logo cgi is now working, so watch for the wacky fonts on the title. Next up will be randomising the quote slogan, but I will have to make more of them first!
Aug 14 2001
There are links to the menu items now… but it’s all just coming soon of course
I just wish that the random image script would work for the site logo and slogan graphics. It will be a nice effect .. if I can ever make it work!
Aug 13 2001
Well there’s part 1 anyway … a nice page template and menu system. Now I need to fill the options with content ![]()

First steps here will be to beef up the web content and explain myself a little further. A couple of days rest before the work though
And a new email sig is in order too …

Finished my full-time job yesterday. Nothing tearful or anything, more excitement and relief than anything else. Sorry to go, but glad not to stay (if that makes sense.)
For some reason, I will share here to email that I sent to my work colleagues that imparts my future plans. Plans that will naturally form the centre of this site:
And so it’s time …
… to say goodbye.
That’s right. As I’m sure you all know now, today (Thursday)
is my last day at Fairfax. I’ve probably spoken to most of you today or
recently anyway, but as you know I wasn’t so happy to go at first, but
as I’ve got things in order I’m now happier and happier with what has
happened.
Leaving is giving me a real chance to make other things
happen tht I’ve been doing for a while anyway. I’m already writing several
articles for Empire movie magazine, I have several fiction projects
looking very promising (close to publishers and all that,) and plenty of
other things.
And yes, I may just move out of Sydney as well – Canberra or
nearby maybe. Or I may not
Somewhere other than my current house
anyway…
Of course, if any large dinner goes ahead in September when
Hattie returns from her travels, I’d love to be involved in that.
Hope to see current and former smh people there. The email address at the
bottom is the place to get me.
Thanks to everyone who has helped me over the last two years especially Tom, Hattie, Mike G (all gone already, naturally!) – and Stephen H, Sean…. Carlos, Rob, Kim and Aysha for all those
entertaining evening shifts – and thanks everyone else as well!
You can always get me at my now and future email address steve@stephen-turner.net (always thought having your own domain looked good!)
Bye all, and hope everything at smh.com.au goes well.

Thanks,
Stephen Turner.

Really
So I guess that totally gives away my former employers, but it also lauches me into the future right here. I know the audience on this won’t be great yet, but as things happen to me, I know it will build up.
