Google Maps - What’s happening here?

Published by Steve under Uncategorized

There’s being a lot said online right now about the cool things you can find with the satellite images at Google Maps. After messing around a bit myself, I’m wondering right now what was happening in Union Square, San Francisco, on the day this was taken…

(Click on the link to look at the map :) )

William’s First Birthday

Published by Steve under Uncategorized

Photos from William’s party now online… a nice selection of pics from his first birthday party on the weekend. Click above to go to the nifty Flickr interface. Their system works so well I’m not entirely sure what to do with the Photography link in the menu :)

And of course… the favourite:

Mobile phone prank catches man’s head in bin

Published by Steve under Uncategorized

This is another one of those “I can’t believe this happened” stories…

“Firemen tried to lubricate the man’s head then use the jaws of life, but eventually had to saw the top of the bin from around the man’s neck.”

More “stupid things slightly or very drunk people will do on a Saturday night…”

Individual-i

Published by Steve under Uncategorized

Too often we seem to be losing the war on privacy and individual rights… for all kinds of reasons. Whether it’s online or in the “real world”, we’re being told everyday that we need to give up more and more to feel “safe”. Anyone with a brain knows enough is enough, but sometimes it’s hard to convince them.

Enter this logo:

A new symbol for a new campaign - for freedom from surveillance, personal privacy, anonymity and many other things that should be automatic, but really aren’t, especially in our “free” society.

Read the site and think about it.

NWA: Reverse Radio Edit

Published by Steve under Uncategorized

The perfect way to infuriate, freak out or offend your neighbours, or just play it really loud and wait until the police show up. These guys have edited the entiretly of NWA’s legendary “Straight Outa Compton” album, removing all main parts of the song, and leaving only the rude bits.

Fun for the whole family!

‘Sin City’ Not A Hollywood Film

Published by Steve under Uncategorized

Another reason why I just have to see this movie as soon as possible… great article above on Sin City, the Rodriguez process for making brilliance on a surprisingly low bugdet, and why Bruce Willis is this generation’s Humphrey Bogart…

The University of Liverpool has begun The Science Fiction Research Hub, a one-stop shop for academic study of SF. Useful, if you’re into that kind of thing.

First Words ?

Published by Steve under Uncategorized

I think my son just said his first word today…

It’s really hard to be certain about these things, and Will has been close to this for a while now, but I would swear he said “Hello” to his cat today (his cat being an adorable plush toy type thing - it objects far less than our two real cats to being kicked, thrown and generally played with :) ).

It was more of a “hewwo” than “hello”, but I was there watching him in his cot, and it really sounded like that.

Or maybe it was just me, I don’t know…
